“Temas Regionales”
"Temas Regionales" is a publication of the Corporación de Estudios y Desarrollo Norte Grande in conjunction with the University of Tarapacá. It presents original and unpublished studies by academics, professionals, or students, whether from public or private entities, Chilean or foreign, who wish to share their experiences in the areas of Territory, Politics, Governance, Economics, Identity, Development, Indicators, or Local Studies, with a preference on South America focus.
In the Norte Grande region, challenges such as the eradication of extreme poverty, the reduction of inequality in all its dimensions, multidimensional poverty, inclusive economic growth with a perspective of decent work for all, sustainable cities, climate change, and sustainable economic productivity, among others, remain current challenges for the region and require specialized and decentralized attention. The green transition, the digitalization of the economy, along with the principles of sustainable development, can be enabling areas for progress toward a just and inclusive society. At the same time, for these transformations to occur, a governance that is relevant to the needs of the territories and communities is needed. However, all issues related to these changes need to be presented and brought closer to academia and the community at large.
Therefore, the Corporación de Estudios y Desarrollo Norte Grande, in collaboration with the Faculty of Administration and Economics of the University of Tarapacá, have proposed, through this journal, to disseminate topics of interest and current scientific relevance. This takes into account the efforts and experiences of sustainable development in all its dimensions, reinventing the content of "Temas Regionales" in a digital format, and focusing on the territorial perspective, especially in South America.

The journal "Temas Regionales" seeks to expose the multiple challenges facing territories and thus seek viable solutions for sustainable development. The sustainable conservation of natural resources, both marine and terrestrial, is undoubtedly of great importance, especially in contexts of biodiversity loss, threats to ecosystems, desertification, the protection of wetlands (both coastal, ravine, and high Andean), and other challenges facing territories and communities. The importance of the sustainable conservation of cultural heritage is recognized, where heritage management, the safeguarding of cultural, archaeological, and ethnographic heritage, as well as indigenous knowledge, including land-based work and ancestral practices, must play a leading role. At the same time, the importance of the presence of industries in various territories is undeniable, which is why the focus is on sustainable businesses, which take into consideration the importance of proper water management, industrial design, and the sustainability of both agri-food and fishery resources. At the same time, it is important to monitor the performance of key industries, the impacts of their operations, and their business models. Finally, it is necessary to analyze how all these issues fit into the governance of sustainability and just transition, as well as analyze aspects of land use, the importance of local and indigenous communities and other population groups, and address issues related to human rights, territorial transformations, local development, and the scenarios in which the territory needs to prepare for the triple climate crisis. "Temas Regionales" thus engages the academic and scientific world in articulating territorial aspects in the active search for solutions to the problems identified.
